🏋️♂️ Focus on strength training and complement with cardio
Cardio is great for weight loss, but too much can lead to a calorie deficit that harms muscle mass. Strength training is essential for maintaining or building muscle, especially when you're in a calorie deficit.
📈 Use progressive overload
Gradually increase your training load as you adapt. You can do this by adding more weight, reps, sets, or improving your technique. Using weights that don’t push you won’t help you “tone” or lose more fat.
🚩 Don’t obsess over soreness
Post-workout soreness isn’t a reliable sign of a good workout. It can vary depending on different factors. Focus on progressive overload and getting stronger.
🚫 Stop trying to spot reduce fat
You can’t choose where to lose fat; this mainly depends on your genetics and overall calorie deficit.
🥵 Don’t use tricks to sweat more
When we work out, we sweat to regulate body temperature, not because we’re burning more fat. Wearing extra layers or waist trainers just makes this harder, and most of the sweat is just water weight that you’ll replace by hydrating.
🎯 Have a structured workout plan
Only with a structured plan can you effectively use progressive overload, track your progress, and optimize your results. This way, you avoid inefficient workouts or overtraining (too much volume).
