Why Don’t the Macros and Calories Always Match in My Food Log?

Updated

It’s totally normal to notice small differences between the macros and total calories in your food log. Here’s why that can happen:

  • Food manufacturers run lab tests using different methods, which can lead to slight variations.
  • Sometimes, manufacturers report approximate values. In those cases, we can’t modify the info because we show the official data listed on the product label.
  • Some brands count fiber (a type of carb) as having zero or just 1–2 kcal per gram.
  • The product may contain sugar alcohols (also classified as carbs), which provide around 1–3 kcal per gram.
  • If the product contains alcohol, keep in mind it provides 7 kcal per gram.

However, these small differences won’t affect your progress, as they don’t add up enough to impact your current goal.
